~  ABOUT SISTERWISDOM  ~

Purpose

SisterWisdom is an online resource created and maintained by SisterLove, Inc.

SisterLove, Inc. is a women’s reproductive and sexual health and rights nonprofit with a focus on HIV/AIDS that is based in Atlanta , Georgia in the United States .

SisterWisdom is an extension of SisterLove Inc.’s outreach to women living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and an attempt to bridge ethnicity based gaps in accessibility, knowledge and activism within the AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights movements in the United States .

SisterWisdom was specifically designed for Black women. Black women --  women of African descent who live in Africa, the United States and throughout the African Diaspora – are statistically most at risk for contracting HIV and are most affected by the AIDS pandemic.

SisterWisdom seeks to be a trusted resource for Black women and others seeking information about HIV/AIDS and other sexual/reproductive health and rights issues.

Mission

SisterWisdom is committed to providing Black women -- women of African descent -- relevant and reliable information, and access to information, about HIV/AIDS and other sexual and reproductive health and rights issues. Through this service, SisterWisdom seeks to support Black women’s personal growth and inspire personal and community action that positively impacts the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all women and particularly those of African descent.

WHEN WE SAY, BLACK WOMEN...

When we say “Black women” we refer to all women  of African descent. When we say “women of African descent” we acknowledge the ethnic and cultural diversity of African people living throughout the African Diaspora. The phrase "women of African descent” honors our collective African ancestors and the many cultures  we have adopted and influenced as a result of our  ancestors’ travels and travails since the beginning of time.  Throughout this website we use the phrases "Black women" and ‘women of African descent’ interchangeably. We use them with reverence, with awareness and in the spirit of sisterhood to refer to women who self-identify as African-American, Black, African, Caribbean, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latin, and every woman who acknowledges her African heritage.
