~ RESOURCE CATEGORIES ~

To assist you in identifying resources that provide similar types of information and/or service we have divided portal resources into two sections: AIDS-Speific and Non-AIDS Specific.

Each 'AIDS-Specific' resource is an agency or organization which provides AIDS related information or services. Since SisterWisdom's primary focus is HIV/AIDS, these resources are categorized to identify the type of service or information provided by the agency or organization.

'Non-AIDS Specific' resources are those agencies or organizations that address issues related to women's reproductive/sexual health and rights and other issues that impact women's experience and understanding of the AIDS pandemic. The general categories under this section identify the agency or organization's primary focus rather than the type of service or information provided.

The AIDS-Specific and Non-AIDS Specific categories that are used throughout SisterWisdom are defined below.

AIDS-SPECIFIC CATEGORIES
CATEGORY	DEFINITION
Advocacy	Advocates with and/or on behalf of individuals and/or groups of individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Epidemiology/Statistics	Collects, analyzes and reports epidemiological data on HIV/AIDS.
Funding	Public and private entities known to fund services for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Housing	Provides housing, or information about housing, for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Information Access/ Dissemination	Collects, reports, disseminates or makes accessible a wide variety of information about HIV/AIDS for access by members of the general public.
Policy/Legislation	Works to develop, research, monitor, evaluate and/or report on legislation or policies impacting those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Media	Involved in communicating information about the AIDS pandemic utilizing the media (print, television/cable and radio).
Prevention	Provides services meant to educate individuals and communities about preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Research/Evaluation	Conducts research and/or evaluation related to HIV/AIDS and/or services provided to the impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Support	Support services -- such as, but not limited to, counseling, peer support, case management -- for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Training/Education	Training provided to individuals on issues directly related to HIV/AIDS.
Testing and Counseling	Provides HIV testing and counseling services for individuals or information about testing and counseling programs.
Treatment	Provides information or services related to the medical treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Activism	Organizations or agencies that conduct, or provide information or resources that facilitate, progressive social activism.
Domestic Violence	Organizations or agencies providing services and/or information addressing domestic violence and its impact upon women and their families.
Gender Equality	Organizations or agencies providing information and/or services addressing gender equality and efforts to counter the impact of sexism.
General Health/Wellness	Organizations or agencies providing information and/or services related to the general heath and wellness of women and girls.
Human Rights	Organizations or agencies providing information and/or services about human rights.
Poverty	Organizations or agencies providing services and/or information related to those living with low-incomes or in poverty.
Sexual/Reproductive Health	Organizations or agencies providing services and/or information that addresses the sexual/reproductive health of women.
Volunteer	Organizations or agencies that facilitate, or provide services or information about, volunteerism in the sexual/reproductive health and rights movement and/or other complementary movements.
